To put this simply, we quote the wise (rephrased) words of Britney Spears, “There are two types of plants in this world, the ones that love the heat and the ones that don’t.”
Here’s our list of 5 hardy and heat-loving plants that we think would look lovely in your home or even at the workplace!
Herbs
What better way to start a garden or begin gardening than with Herbs? Fragrant, edible and beautiful additions to the home, Herbs come in many different varieties. From Western Herbs like Mint, Basil and Rosemary, to Asian ones like Pandan, Lemongrass, and Chilli, they are all hardy plants that bring life into the home and a delicious addition to your next dish! Not to mention, caring for them requires way less effort than heading to the nearest market to purchase them.
Best spot: Next to a window, windowsill, balcony or corridor.
Succulents
These plump leafed babies need no introduction. Easy-to-care-for and an absolute joy to have in the home, Succulents adapt very well to Singapore’s sunny and humid weather. To add on to its long list of awesomeness, unlike other plants, Succulents release oxygen at night! This makes them great additions to rooms in the home that need an extra oxygen boost, like the toilet or kitchen.

Kalanchoes
Available in a wide range of colors and sizes, Kalanchoes are perhaps one of the easiest flowering plants to keep! No need to move them indoors and outdoors every few days, just place them at a shady area and water then once every 4 to 5 days. It really is as simple as that! Not to mention, Kalanchoes like have long-lasting flower-heads that bloom for a couple of weeks at a time.
Best spot: Next to a window, windowsill, balcony or corridor.
Sunflowers
Needless to say, the tall and ever so cheerful Sunflower makes it on our list! These flowers are able to thrive relatively easily in Singapore because of their love for direct sunlight and warmer weather temperatures.
Best spot: Outdoor garden. However, if you are short on space and will be placing your Sunflowers at the corridor, elevate it with bricks so that it receives direct and full sunlight.
Parlor Palm
Also known as Chamaedorea Elegans, this summery green plant thrives best in warmer climates with high humidity, making it a perfect plant for Singapore! If given the right amount of TLC (which is little to none), the Parlor Palm can easily grow to over 1m in height.
Not to mention, it is also a forgiving one that prefers to be underwatered. This means you only need to water the Parlor Palm when its soil is dry, which is approximately every 5 days or so.
Best spot: Next to a window, balcony, windowsill or corridor.
